SEND and Inclusion

SEND-Special Educational Needs and Disability

At Donington Cowley Endowed Primary School we strive to support all children in aiming high and achieving their full potential.

For some children and families, there are occasions where additional support may be needed to help children to achieve their very best.

Our SENDCo is Mrs S Ogden.  Sarah-Jane Millard is our Inclusion Lead.

What is SEND?

  • A child has special educational needs if he or she has a learning difficulty which is significantly greater than the majority of children of the same age.
  • A child has special educational needs if he or she has a disability which makes it difficult to use the facilities which are normally available.

What is the Information Report?

Local authorities and other services have set out Information Reports which describe the services available to support children and young people who have SEND, and their families. In addition to this, each school has produced a Information Report. Our Information Report describes how we will support children with SEND, and their families.

Inclusion

At Donington Primary School we work hard to ensure that every member of our school community – pupils, parents, staff and visitors – feel safe and included.

We are an inclusive school and every child, whatever their individual abilities or needs, is equally valued and welcome here. We expect all parents and visitors to understand and support our inclusive ethos.

What does Inclusion mean? Inclusion is a universal human right. The aim of inclusion is to embrace all people irrespective of race, gender, disability, medical or other needs. It is about giving equal access and opportunities and getting rid of discrimination and intolerance.

Inclusion in schools In education ‘inclusion’ describes the right of parents and children to access mainstream education alongside their peers. Inclusion is about providing equal opportunities for all children.

We offer support to all members of our school community, providing  information and signposting to external services,  coffee mornings with professionals and training courses.
