Goal Ball

On Friday 8th March some children from Key Stage 2 went to Boston Peter Paine Centre to play Goalball.
This is a unique Paralympic team sport for visually impaired players. However, anyone can play as everyone wears eye shades. Instead of using sight, you listen for the audible ball and feel for the tactile court.
we all had great fun!

On Friday 26th January, some of our Year 3/4 cohort competed in Sports Hall Athletics, an event at Boston College. Whilst at this event, our children competed in several different track and field events such as obstacle relays and running relays as well as the speed bounce and javelin. We were competing against 9 other schools in our afternoon group. The children were incredible all day with both their attitude and behaviour towards other schools and their ability in the events. This amazing attitude and level of athleticism all afternoon resulted in us winning the competition. This is an amazing achievement and all of the children that competed should be incredibly proud.
On Thursday 25th January, some of our girls from Year 6 competed in a football competition at Thomas Middlecott. Whilst we were at the event the children played three group games against Tower Road, Hawthorn Tree and Gosberton School. We won two and drew one of our group games which resulted in us topping the group and going through to the semi-finals. In these semi-finals we came up against Gosberton School again. It was a tight game but we managed to win the game 1-0. This sent us through to the final with Hawthorn Tree. Despite drawing in the group stage, and thanks to a hattrick in the final from one of our girls, we ran out 3-0 winners which resulted in us winning the competition which is an amazing achievement. The girls attitude and sporting ability was amazing throughout the tournament and the girls that competed should be incredibly proud.

On Thursday 11th January, some of our children from Year 5 and 6 competed in a table tennis competition at Thomas Middlecott. The children were split into different groups and all the children did very well. The competition was fierce but despite that, two of our children made it through the group stages and into the semi-finals. They both played amazing in the semi-finals and despite the results, showed amazing determination. All the children that went to the event should be incredibly proud of their attitude and athleticism whilst at the event.

On Friday 8th December, some of our Year 5/6 cohort competed in Sports Hall Athletics, an event at Boston College. Whilst at this event, our children competed in several different track and field events such as obstacle relays and running relays as well as the speed bounce and javelin. We were competing against 9 other schools in our afternoon group. The children were incredible all day with both their attitude and behaviour towards other schools and their ability in the events. This amazing activity resulted in us scoring 654 which meant we finished SECOND in the event. The children should all be incredibly proud of all that they achieved whilst we were there.

We went to a footballing event on Tuesday 21st November at Boston United and the children loved it. We played three group matches against Kirton, Boston Pioneers and Staniland where we played very well in all of the games. The children were excellent in every game we played and displayed incredible sportsmanship throughout. They all tried their hardest and even if the results didn’t go our way, they should be proud of their attitude and behaviour. We also got a tour of Boston United's football ground which was an incredible experience for the children. The children loved every minute of it.

Y10 Sports Leaders from Cowley Academy organised a rounders tournament for our Y5 children. It was a great afternoon and all our children developed their rounders skills.
Year 6 were recently invited by Donington Angling club to take part in the 'Go Fishing' initiative. They held maggots and fish, tried two types of rods and had an amazing time

We are delighted to announce that, Donington Cowley Endowed Primary have achieved the School Games GOLD Mark Award for the 2022/23 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

We look forward to applying once again in 2024!

Recently we had Ema from Dance Yoga Therapy come to visit us in school to deliver yoga workshops. All classes took part in the workshops and Ema was very impressed with the children's attention and determination.
During the sessions, the children learnt how yoga and certain breathing techniques can help with emotional regulation as well as strength, flexibility and enhancing concentration and memory.
The children learnt a series of yoga poses which were then put together to make a dance routine and the end result was fantastic to watch.
All classes were full of smiles, and they all seemed to thoroughly enjoy their time with Ema.
We are hoping she will be back to visit us again one day soon.
