End of Year Awards Assembly


At the end of each Academic Year we hold an awards assembly to celebrate a variety of acheivements.
Congratulations to Florence for being awarded this years Andrew Judd Memorial Award for Citizenship and to Tommy on being the first winner of our new Endeavor Award. Both awards were presented in recognition of unique achievements and individual accomplishments, each reflecting our school's core values of Determination, Courage, Excellence, Pride, and Success. Both these children have done themselves, their families and the whole school proud.

A huge well done to all the children who received their medals for 100% attendance for the whole year!
Our termly attendance prize was awarded. All children who achieve above 95% attendance for the term are put into a draw for a chance to win a £10 Amazon voucher.
We presented the award for the winner of the most Golden Tickets received this term. Golden Tickets are awarded to children for excellent behaviour during lunch times.
We also said goodbye and thank you to Mrs Manley and Miss Sandall as they leave us this term. We wish you both all the best as you move on to new adventures.
It has been another amazing year of achievements. Well done to all the children across the whole school for everything that has been achieved throughout the year.


School Production 2026

This year, we stepped into the world of rock 'n' roll as we brought to life our take on the story of Robin Hood. After weeks of learning songs, lines, and actions, we opened the doors to perform for our parents, carers, and families.
Every child (and staff member!) gave 100% in each performance and we couldn't be more proud. The children's enthusiasm, determination and confidence shone through from start to finish and made each show a huge success. A special mention to our very talented Year 6 children for their outstanding storytelling. They fully embraced their roles and should be proud of the important part they played in the shows.
Our whole school performances are written and directed by Karl and his team at Act II Theartre Company. We are alwasy so grateful for their hard work, dedication and creativity in bringing these fantastic shows together. 

Music Assembly

During Summer Term 2 25/26, we held our final Music Assembly and we were delighted to welcome parents in to watch their stars perform.
The children who performed in this assembly learn music through Pop Rox Music School and Lincolnshire Music Services. They work incredibly hard each week to learn their instruments, and these performances are a wonderful opportunity to showcase their talent, confidence, and progress.


Horizon Schools Federation Careers and Aspirations Week


At the end of June, we held our first Horizon Schools Federation Careers and Aspirations week in school. Throughout the week, volunteers from a variety of professions visited the school to inspire our children as they begin to think about their own futures and the wide range of opportunities available in the world of work. The impact of these visit's was remarkable. The children did not stop talking about the sessions, enthusiastically discussing what they learned and sharing their favourite moments with one another.

To celebrate the end of Careers Week, the children came to school dressed as what they would like to be when they grow up.
It was wonderful to see such a wide variety of aspirations, and even more exciting to hear that many had chosen careers inspired by our visitors.

Year 3 & 4 Topic Afternoon

During the Summer Term, Year 3/4 had a fantastic afternoon when parents were invited into school to celebrate their learning. The children were excited to share everything they had learnt about their Olympia topic with their families.
There were lots of fun activities for everyone to enjoy, including making Olympic medals and Greek coins out of clay, creating an origami Cyclops eye, and using pipe cleaners and tin foil to make an Olympic sports figure.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our afternoon of creativity. It was wonderful to see the children (and the adults!) enjoying the activities and feeling so proud of all they had achieved.

Horizon Schools Federation turns 1!

It was an incredibly exciting start to Spring Term 2 across our Federation celebrating our official 1st birthday on Thursday 26th February. It has been lovely to see our children across all year groups join together; collaborating on learning activities, enjoying new experiences, building friendships and working together as one. We are so proud of our two amazing schools and look forward to our further work together as our federation continues to flourish.

Roots to Food

This week we welcomed back Darren from Roots to Food for another fantastic cooking workshop. Children from Nursery and Reception enjoyed working with dough to make Stromboli and Years 1 - 6 made a tasty Pad Thai with lots of lovely, fresh ingredients.
Well done to all our Chefs! Darren was very impressed with the children's enthusiasm, skills, and the knowledge the older children had retained since his last visit.

Harvest Festival

On Thursday 2nd October we welcomed Father David, Rector of Boston, into school for our Harvest Festival assembly. He spoke on behalf of the Boston Food Bank about the work they do throughout the year and how they help people in the community.
Thank you to all our families for the kind donations that were brought into school today and thank you to our School Council for their help in gathering up all the donations for Father David to take with him. He was extremely grateful to receive these contributions to the Boston Food Bank.
Key Stage 2 Christmas Carol Service 
On Monday 16th December our Key Stage 2 children held their Christmas Carol Service at St Mary and the Holyrood Church here in Donington. Families were invited to hear the children sing Christmas songs and tell the story of the Nativity.
Well done to all the children for speaking so confidently and singing so beautifully. Thank you to all our families who joined us.
Early Years and Key Stage 1 Nativity
On Monday 9th December our Early Years and Key Stage 1 children performed their Nativity at Donington St Mary and the Holyrood Church. The children and staff all worked very hard putting this together, practicing their songs and learning their lines. All the children who took part did an amazing job!
It was lovely to welcome our families to join us for this special performance, there were certainly a lot of proud faces in the audience! Thank you to those who were able to join us.
Roots to Food

We recently welcomed Darren back into school from Roots to Food. The children were very excited to improve their culinary skills and made a mouth-watering Szechuan Chicken dish which they then got to taste. Some of the children's feedback was- ‘This is delicious’ and ‘I can’t wait to make this at home.’ 

 We look forwards to seeing Darren again in March and then for the Year 6 Gala dinner.

Reception Stay and Play
Parents of our Reception children are invited into school each term for a "Stay and Play" afternoon. This gives the parents the opportunity to come into school and share different activities with their child. The children love to show their parents/carers their classroom and all the things they get up to during their day in school. It is also a lovely time for parents to see the friendships they have made.
 
Sensory Garden Opening

On Friday 7th June, we were delighted to officially open our amazing Sensory Garden. We were joined by members of our school council, PTFA, Governors, Cowley Trusts and representatives from Willow Homes who completed the design and installation of this fantastic new facility.

This project has been planned over several months to ensure the highest quality of design criteria, providing a welcoming and calming sensory space for reflection, mindfulness and sensory integration. The idea for this started with our school council, who researched into the market and considered what would need to be included to meet all elements of sensory input.  This would not have been possible were it not for the generosity of the Cowley Trust and donations from Mukagee Johnson Trust, plus additional fundraising by our PTFA and School Council. We would also like to thank Spalding Farm Shop who match funded money raised by our school council to ensure a range of plants which provide visual, textured and aromatic sensory experiences. We are exceptionally proud to be able to offer this provision in addition to our multi-sensory suite, 3D immersive suite and kitchen facility which all provide further curriculum enrichment and sensory support for all of our children.

Year 6 London trip to Matilda
On Wednesday 5th June, members of our Year 6 cohort went on a school trip to London to watch the Matilda musical. They had a wonderful time making their way down to London to see the show and whilst we were there, the children loved it, you could hear some of them afterwards singing the songs. It was a wonderful experience for the children to have and I know how much they all enjoyed it. All the children that attended were a credit to the school and their behaviour both in the theatre and walking around London was incredible.
DT Kitchen Opening
On Friday 10th May, we were delighted to officially open our repurposed kitchen area. This has been specifically designed to be accessible for children and provide a suitable learning environment where children can learn about food and nutrition and also enjoy varied cooking activities. In addition to enhancing our DT curriculum provision this also supports life skills and pupil wellbeing.

This is another fantastic addition to our school, following last year’s opening of our library, multi-sensory room and 3D immersive suite. We recognise how fortunate we are to have these facilities within a mainstream school environment, none of which would be possible were it not for the generosity of the Cowley Trust. We once again thank them for the enrichment opportunities offered to our children as a result of their donations.

Additionally, our fantastic PTFA will be funding further equipment for the kitchen for which we are incredibly grateful. The impact of our dedicated school and local community is incredible!

The children have really enjoyed using this new facility and when asked what they thought of the new kitchen one child said she was "Amazed that we can cook and bake at school!" and another child said the new kitchen made him feel "Happy!" He also said "I like cooking and it is exciting we can do it in school and then show our new skills off at home!"

 

 

Houses of Parliament and London Eye Year 6 trip
On Wednesday 21st February the Year 6 children from Donington and St Gilbert's travelled to the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament. The children were a credit to the school and were fantastic all day. We went on the London Eye and managed to spot some the landmarks sights in London such as St Paul's Cathedral and Buckingham Palace. We then walked across Westminster Bridge to the Houses of Parliament. We were given a tour of the House of Parliament and even went into the viewing gallery and watched part of a debate taking place in the Houses of Commons! 
 3D Immersive Suite Launch
On Friday 22nd September we officially opened our BRAND NEW 3D Immersive Suite in School.
Thank you so much to the representatives of the Cowley Trust, our Governing body and our School Council for joining us this morning to celebrate this amazing new space. We are extremely grateful to the Cowley Trust who have supported us in bringing this vision to life and opening endless possibilities for discovery for the children of Donington Cowley Endowed Primary School.
Our School Council enjoyed testing out the interactive games and exploring new worlds!
Kevin was impressed with the interactive floor, Ella felt like she was in a museum, Chenumi loved how it made her feel very focused and Binaya said it was a fun way to learn!

Multi Sensory Room Opening
We are very excited to share with you that on Wednesday 19th April, we held our official opening of our brand new Multi Sensory Room in school.
Due to generous funding from both the Cowley Trust and East Midlands Railway Community Fund, we have been able to create a unique multi sensory room within our school.
For this opening, we were joined by representatives of the Cowley Trust, East Midlands Railway, our Governing body and the Lincolnshire Free Press to celebrate our exciting new room and to say thank you to those involved in making our vision a reality.
