Remote (Home) and blending learning in the Early Years' Foundation Stage

Tapestry Online Learning Journal

Tapestry is a learning platform that we use in the Early Years Foundation Stage to create an online learning journal for each pupil.

For children in the Early Years Foundation Stage, remote or blended learning will be sent via Tapestry and Purple Mash in the event of a pupil self-isolation, a bubble closure or a full lockdown.

Donington Cowley Endowed Primary school is committed to working in close partnership with families, recognising each family is unique. Because of this, remote learning will look different for different families, in order to suit their individual needs. As a school, we will provide support for parents on how to use Tapestry and Purple Mash and where possible, provide resources that will help you to support your child’s learning journey.

Remote learning will help parents/carers to support their children’s learning, by providing a mix of real, hands on, physical and online activities. Using feedback from families, we will endeavour to work with children’s particular interests and needs, whilst identifying the focus for the week ahead.

How to use Tapestry

We encourage families to add comments, photos and videos to Tapestry to provide feedback on how things are going at home. If there is a concern around the level of engagement of a child, families will be contacted via e-mail to assess whether school intervention can assist with engagement.

Purple Mash

Purple Mash is a creative educational website for children. It can be accessed from home on a PC, tablet or laptop. Your child’s log in information has already been sent home and can be used to log in using the following web address https://www.purplemash.com/donington

Activities for the children to complete will be put in the ‘My Pins’ tray and completed work should be saved into the ‘Finished Work’ tray.

Providing structure at home

We would encourage parents/carers to support their children’s learning by:

  • Providing a quiet space
  • Encouraging children to do their best
  • Ensuring children stay safe whilst online
Where possible, it is beneficial for young children to maintain a regular and familiar routine. We would recommend that each “school day” maintains structure. Please click below to see our suggested daily timetable

What will learning look like?

We will send a weekly overview of suggested activities linked to the Prime and Specific areas of learning related to a book or topic. The overview may also provide links to Oak National Academy, White Rose Maths, Numberblocks, You Tube and other appropriate materials.

The expectation is for phonics, writing, maths and reading to take place each day to support your child's learning. It is important that your day reflects the nature of our Early Years and learning is supported with lots of opportunities to play, be active and hear stories being read.

The children will have access to Rising Stars Reading Planet. This provides a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books at a variety of reading levels. The children are able to take quizzes which assess their understanding of the book that they have read.
