 Coming Up:

We are going to focus on our Superkind this term, giving children the opportunity to complete social actions which benefit either themselves or the community. This will be sent out through homework, but children will also be encouraged to complete this independently too. We will be rewarding this in assembly by children adding Superkind stickers to our school display.

School Council News

September 2024:

At the start of this academic year, two children per year group were chosen to represent our school as school councillors. Since then, they have worked with Miss Allen to give pupil voice, make decisions and organise events which are part of our PSHE awareness calendar.

October 2024:

This month, one of our main focuses has been World Mental Health Day, which took place on the 10th of October. The school council decided that during this day, the staff and children would come dress in bright clothing and that we would cover the school in post-it notes which included kind and positive messages. The aim of this was to spread kindness, make others smile and also give people ideas of kind things that they could say to one another.

At the end of the day, the school council presented an assembly to the school about World Mental Health day, explaining what mental health is, why it is important and how we can support both our own and other people’s mental health. We also explained that the worry monsters, which are used in every classroom, is a fantastic way of sharing our thoughts and feelings and that these can be used by all children in school on a daily basis.

December 2024:

To raise money for Mr Carr’s Chess Club, the School Councillors spent time baking cookies and rocky road to sell at the school’s Christmas Choir Concert. We worked very hard to make posters and signs and ended up raising £31.20!

March 2025:

As part of Comic Relief, each child in the school created a self-portrait using a different art material. EYFS and KS1 used colouring pencils, Y3/4 used oil pastels and Y5/6 used paints. These were then all collected and School Council spent the afternoon choosing their favourites to win a prize. After school, we sold baked goods (which we had made) at the choir recital and raise £67.70 for Red Nose Day!

April 2025:

This term, we have introduced Social Impact Awards as part of a new program Superkind’. This is going to encourage children to complete actions which benefit either themselves or their community. School Council will be taking a lead on this and will be giving out stickers (which will act as their Superkind badges) in assemblies to those who have completed social actions. We are very excited about this new program in school and the impact it will have on our wellbeing and our community.

May 2025:

School Council also organised another bake sale using the cakes which were donated for VE Day. We raised over £80 and this was our highest amount yet!
